Signing of treaty for community development in Togo- UNDP

©Afreepress-(Lomé, Saturday, August 11, 2017)- A conference was organized by the United Nation Development Program (UNDP) on Friday, 11 August 2017, at Hotel Palm Beach, Lomé Togo. This conference, aimed at community development, was organized in order for the UNDP to sign two important conventions with the Minister of Basic Development, crafts, youth and youth employment and the Minister of Urbanism, habitat and living environment.

According to the Resident Representative of the UNDP, Madame Khardiata LO N’DIAYE, many activities aimed at reducing inequalities and fighting poverty in less developed areas, have since been carried out for the development of socio economic facilities and infrastructures in the whole national territory and this has been made possible by the help of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Faure Gnassingbé, thanks to him. They (UNDP) are therefore, entrusting in the hands of the two ministers, a number of activities, of which “Programme d’Urgence de Développement Communautaire (PUDC)” is one. “PUDC” can be simply translated as “Community Development Emergency Program”.

In view of this, two agreements were signed to show approval by the Minister of Basic Development, crafts, youth and youth employment and the Minister of Urbanism, habitat and living environment. The first agreement was signed for an amount of nine hundred and seventy four million (974,000,000) cfa for the instalment of over 40 multifunctional platforms throughout the territory and the second agreement was signed for an amount of ninety three million (93,000,000) cfa for the maintenance of sanitation and sewerage works for canals, gutters, and other related works respectively.

Madam Khardiata LO N’DIAYE seized that same opportunity, to thank the two ministers for their constant support and partnership spirit and she assured them that they (UNDP) would not hesitate to stand by them always. The Ministers expressed their gratitude to the UNDP for their massive support and has assured everyone that they would see to it that measures are put in place to help transform and develop the nation.

It should be remembered that the UNDP works in nearly 170 countries and territories, helping them to achieve the eradication of poverty. They share solutions in three main areas; Sustainable development, Democratic governance and peacebuilding and Climate and disaster resilience.
