©Afreepress-(Lomé, August 09, 2017)- Togo President Faure Gnasingbe’s visit to Jerusalem this week is the latest demonstration of Israel’s success in reaching out to African nations.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara hosted a dinner Monday evening for Togo President Faure Gnassingbe at the Prime Minister’s residence in Jerusalem.
Gnassingbé has faced pressure from the Palestinians to cancel an Africa-Israel summit that the West African nation is due to host in October, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday at the weekly Cabinet meeting.
“These pressures are the best testimony to the success of our policy, of Israel’s presence in Africa,” Netanyahu stated.
Visiting Jerusalem this week, Gnassingbe, chairperson of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), wrote in the prime minister’s guestbook, “I dream of Israel’s return to Africa and Africa’s return to Israel.”
“Togo is a true friend of the State of Israel,” Netanyahu declared.
