The forum on economy gathering West Africa economic and monetary Union was launched today by the Togolese Prime Minister, Gilbert Houngbo.
This forum targets a solid partnership to enhance the relationship in between Africa and Asia.
It assembles important personalities coming from Asia and Africa in order to see how to learn from the experience of Asian countries considered as models to copy in the domain of economic growth.
« To learn efficiently from the economic development of Asia, Africa but especially its Western economic and monetary Union, needs to establish a serious relationship with Asia in order to boost communication between the two continents. Africa will gain a lot from this relationship for many opportunities are ahead to help develop its economy durably and help, therefore, fight against poverty. This will help also Africa have a good economic position in the world” declared M. Houngbo.
M. Houngbo wishes to have in the end of the forum some technology transfers and new ways of negotiation in terms of commerce and finance between Africa and Asia. Recommendations are needed to better the relationship of the two continents for the benefit of all.
Having the floor, the Ambassador of China in Togo, Wang Zuofeng, put emphasis on the fact that Asian countries are not suffering as such from the world crisis as it is the case in Europe and in America.
Asian countries are better facing the economic crisis in the world. In 2010 the sum total GDP of Asia reached Us Dollar 17,000 Billion. And that represent 30% of the world GDP. With this prowess, Asia is classified as one of the dynamic economic zones in the world” confirmed M. Zuofeng
Many activities will be held during this forum, such as workshops in the domains of energy, agro business, facilities and telecommunication, tourism, hotel managing and finance including two debates on how the strategies to adopt to reach economic growth.
The vice-President of West African Bank for Development, Bassary Touré stated: « Africa and Asia partnership must be rich of exchange and transfer of knowledge and technologies that take into account the realities of Africa”.
